Ukrainian Pysanka Eggs: The Art of Hope and Resistance w/ P&D

A magical object and source of life, the egg is a symbol of renewal. Pysanka comes from the Ukrainian verb “pysaty,” which means “to write.” As we look forward to the renewal of spring, the art of Pysanky is thought to bind and encapsulate evil within the egg through the use of intricately drawn patterns in wax. This ancient art was almost completely lost last century during the Soviet Union’s occupation of Ukraine, but as a form of resistance, the people continued to practice in secret.
