Altered States for Everyday Wellbeing is a 4-week meditation series offering a grounded, experiential introduction to altered states of consciousness for self-care, emotional healing, and personal development. Each session blends classical meditation methods with teachings drawn from Theravada Buddhism, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Yoga Nidra philosophy, Dzogchen awareness traditions, and the modern consciousness research of Shelli Renée Joye and Rudolf Steiner.
Designed to welcome beginners while still offering depth for experienced practitioners, this course explores how breath, compassion, deep rest, and awareness-based perception can calm the mind, transform emotional patterns, access subconscious material, and open the inner senses. These practices support nervous system regulation, emotional purification, intuitive clarity, and, over time, the development of supersensory perception.
01.10.26 WEEK 1 - Mindfulness of Breathing (Theravada Method)
Anxiety & Stress Relief
We begin with Anapanasati, the classical Theravada practice of mindfulness of breathing. Students learn how breath awareness stabilizes attention, reduces mental agitation, and shifts the nervous system into calm awareness. We explore the foundations of sati (mindfulness) and samadhi (concentration), along with the natural changes in consciousness that arise through breath-led meditation. This session creates the grounding and stability needed for the rest of the series.
01.17.26 WEEK 2 – Metta Meditation
Healing Loneliness, Grief, and Heartache
Week two focuses on Metta, the cultivation of loving-kindness. We explore Patanjali’s guidance in Yoga Sutra 1.33—cultivating maitrī, karuṇā, muditā, and upekṣā—as a method for emotional regulation and mental clarity. Students learn how Metta softens grief, rebuilds inner warmth, supports emotional resilience, and restores a sense of connection with oneself and others.
01.24.26 WEEK 3 – Yoga Nidra & The Practice of Yogic Sleep
Transforming Subconscious Beliefs and Habits
In this session, students enter the deeply restorative state of Yoga Nidra, or “yogic sleep.” We explore the five koshas—Annamaya, Pranamaya, Manomaya, Vijnanamaya, and the subtle Asmritamaya Kosha (the sense of self). Through this layered journey, Yoga Nidra guides awareness into the liminal zone, the threshold between waking and dreaming, where hypnagogic imagery and subconscious impressions naturally emerge. This practice supports emotional release, nervous system reset, and intentional re-patterning of subconscious habits and beliefs.
01.31.26 WEEK 4 – Moving Beyond the Mind & Purifying Emotions
Opening the Inner Senses for Clarity, Energy, and Presence
Our final week explores emotional purification, intuitive clarity, and subtle perception. Drawing from Dzogchen, Rudolf Steiner, and Shelli Renée Joye, we examine how moving beyond conceptual thinking reveals deeper states of awareness. Students learn a gentle form of awareness-of-awareness meditation, which helps settle emotional turbulence, steady the energetic body, and awaken the inner senses. These subtle practices cultivate clarity, presence, and perceptual sensitivity—and can support the early development of supersensory perception.
